September 2025The industry's popularity score collapsed and nobody fixed it

How many people see
your app in search?

Storelift scans the App Store and Google Play every night: where you rank on each keyword, who stands above you, and whether anyone actually searches that term. One input — your store link.

That's the only input. The first measurement starts while you're on the page.

Most ASO tools drink from the same broken well

Apple's ad-panel popularity score changed quietly in September 2025: 77.4% of US keywords hit the floor within four days, with no explanation. That score was never search volume — it's a relative index from 5 to 100, built for ad bidding. And it only exists where Apple Ads operates: 91 countries, against an App Store present in 175.

popularity 5 — the floor of the scale. The source field says the score came from Apple. The metric that broke is still inside the products.

We never used that score

Our demand signal comes from Apple's own autocomplete: does it suggest the term, and with how many variants. Independent of the ad panel, available in every store.

Every number shows its source

Which search produced the rank, which result produced the rival list, when the review was written. Run the same search yourself and check us.

We tell you what we can't measure

Android depth is the first ~30 results and we say so on every screen. If a measurement failed, the chart shows a gap — never a line dropping to zero.

How it works

Three steps

No account linking, no key generation, no developer portal.

1

Paste the store link

An App Store or Google Play URL is enough. We find the app, pull its name and icon, and merge both store versions into one record.

2

Enter your keywords

Each country gets its own list — measuring a Turkish term in the US store just produces empty rows. The first measurement starts while you're still on the page.

3

Check the board each morning

Ranks, rivals, demand and reviews are re-measured every night. The screen takes you to what changed: risers, fallers, and rows that need a decision.

Daily rank

Top 100 on iOS, top ~30 on Android. Every row carries 7 and 30-day movement and the last 30 days as a line.

Demand signal

Does Apple's autocomplete suggest the term? If it never does, ranking for it buys you nothing.

Gaps

Terms your rivals appear on and you aren't tracking. Only terms seen on at least two apps in the measured pool make the list — not one-off noise.

THE AI LAYER

Search no longer lives only in the store

People ask an assistant when they look for an app. Storelift measures that answer too — and puts AI to work where it actually belongs: finding keywords.

Do assistants name you?

We build natural questions from your keywords, ask an assistant, and check whether your name appears and in what position. We don't ask the model for the ranking — we count the names in its answer ourselves. Your store rank doesn't answer this, and no competitor measures it.

"What's the best dream interpretation app?"
1. Rival A2. Rival B3. Your app

For comparison: one competitor measures this too — across two engines, and only on its enterprise tier. Ours runs on three engines from the $20 plan, and prints which country it measured.

AI suggests, measurement decides

We read your store description and tracked keywords and produce new terms people would actually type. Then the term goes through normal measurement: its rank and demand come from the store, not from the model.

Claude reads your board directly (MCP)

Storelift exposes an MCP server: connect it to Claude and ask in plain language. The numbers come from your board — not from the model.

Public API — the numbers are yours

On Studio every measurement is available behind an API key: pipe it into your own dashboard, cron, or agent. No waiting for an export file.

{ "term": "dream interpretation", "rank": 5, "demand": 9 }

Rank, demand and rival figures do not come from AI — they are measured from the store's own public data. AI's job is to ask questions and read answers, not to invent numbers.

Compare

The advertised price is not the ASO price

On three of these five tools, the entry plan doesn't track keyword rank at all. The second column below is the price at which you actually start seeing your rank.

Appfigures $9.99/mo$149.99/moYes, no rank trackingNone
AppFollow $0$179/moYes, 20 keywords/monthNone

Figures read from each vendor's own pricing page in August 2026. AppFollow's tiers render client-side and could not be read by machine; that row comes from third-party listings.

That isn't the whole price story

Sonar gives far more keywords for the same money (2,500 against our 150) and a higher API quota. What we give is a free tier that doesn't expire, and demand data that isn't tied to Apple's collapsed ad score. Both are true — pick the one that fits your work.

Measurement time grows with keywords × countries: on an account tracking 150 keywords across 128 countries, each country's turn comes around every ~24 days. That cycle is printed in the board — we made the limit visible instead of raising it.

Questions

How do you access my app?

We don't. We read the public face of the store: search results, the app page, autocomplete, the review feed. The only things you give us are your app's store link and an email address to log in with.

Are the ranks identical to the store?

Apple's public search endpoint tracks store ranking closely but isn't guaranteed identical, and the store personalizes per user. That's why movement matters more than the absolute number — 7 and 30-day deltas sit next to every rank.

Why top ~30 on Android?

Google Play offers no official search endpoint; its search page returns roughly 20-30 results at a time. We print the depth we saw: "not ranked" here means "not in the first ~30".

Why no download or revenue estimates?

Producing them means either connecting to your store account or inventing a model. We don't do the second. Revenue data may become connectable later, but it will default to off and will never share a cell with a measurement.

How often is the data refreshed?

Automatically every night. You can also trigger a measurement by hand — 2 per day on Free, 10 on Pro, 25 on Studio.

How does yearly billing work?

On a yearly plan you pay for ten months instead of twelve. Plan changes apply immediately; upgrading mid-month costs only the difference.

Can I delete my data?

Settings → Delete my account. The account, the apps and every measurement go permanently; there's no step beyond the confirmation.
